Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, you'll find answers to the questions we get asked most often.

  • Do I qualify for any benefits if I'm represented by Creative Niche?

Absolutely! Creative Niche associates qualify for our Refer Niche and Elite Niche programs. You also have an open invitation to any Project Greenhouse event and, if you qualify, are eligible for our health and dental plan.

  • Does Creative Niche offer other benefits besides Refer Niche rewards?

You bet! Creative Niche associates are eligible for Elite Niche benefits, which include health and dental benefits for those associates who qualify.

Elite Niche also lets associates enjoy discounts for valuable products and services like Zipcar and for attendance at career-boosting events like FITC Toronto and RGD Ontario.

  • How do I let Creative Niche know that I'm available for work?

Simply e-mail your availability to update@creativeniche.ca whenever you're free and looking for work.

  • How do I refer a colleague or friend so that I can earn Refer Niche rewards?

If you refer a peer to Creative Niche, simply ask the individual to tell us about your referral during his or her interview. We'll make a note and follow up.

  • How long do freelance assignments last?

The length of freelance assignments offered by Creative Niche varies. Assignments can be as short as a day or run for many months.

  • How long does it take to apply online?

It generally takes about 15 minutes to complete an online application.

  • How much work can I expect from you?

Unfortunately, we can't give you a definite answer.

How much work we can secure for you depends on a variety of factors, including the overall job market, what skills are currently in demand, where the most opportunities are, your own availability, the compensation you're after, etc.

  • How often is your job board updated?

We update our job board whenever new job opportunities become available, often daily.

  • I applied for a posting using your online registration system, but got a message saying that I'm already registered. How do I know whether I'll be considered for the role?

If you're registered with Creative Niche and you apply online for a job position, you should see a screen telling you that your information will be forwarded for that role.

If for some reason you don't receive this message, please e-mail us at update@creativeniche.ca. We'll follow up by making sure that you're in our database and, if appropriate, that your candidacy is forwarded for the desired role.

  • I came in for an interview. When will my references be called?

When we follow up with references depends on a number of factors, including the type of opportunity you're looking for. Since freelance jobs usually have to be filled fairly quickly, your references will be called fairly soon after your interview if you're applying and qualify for one.

The fulltime placement process, however, takes longer, and references are usually called closer to an actual placement.

Either way, please be patient and be assured that your Creative Niche representative will contact references at an appropriate time if you appear to be a good fit for the position we're filling.

  • I referred a colleague or friend to Creative Niche. How do I know if I've qualified for a Refer Niche reward?

If you refer a peer to Creative Niche, we'll let you know whether you qualify for a Refer Niche reward. If you haven't heard from us within two weeks after your colleague's interview, please contact Jayla Mortensen. She'll be sure to let you know what your current status is as soon as she can.

  • I'm registered with Creative Niche. May I register with other staffing agencies?

You're welcome to pursue any other employment opportunities, including those offered by other employment services.

  • If I have a freelance placement through Creative Niche, will I still be considered for permanent positions?

We'll certainly consider you for permanent roles if you've instructed us to do so.

  • I’ve applied for a job opportunity through your online registration system. When will I find out whether I've qualified?

Unfortunately, we can't guarantee when you'll hear back about a job application, or whether you'll hear back at all.

Our response depends on how closely your qualifications match the position you applied for, what other candidates have applied for it and a number of other factors. Be assured that we will contact all suitable applicants as soon as possible.

  • May I take copies or samples of what I've produced for Creative Niche clients for my portfolio?

While working with Creative Niche's clients, you are under a non-disclosure agreement, and accordingly may not use unauthorized copies or samples of work.

That said, if you receive written consent from a Creative Niche or Account client to use samples, you're free to do so. If you have any questions, please contact your Creative Niche representative.

  • May I work from home for freelance positions secured through Creative Niche?

Possibly. It depends on the nature of the assignment. Some of our clients actually prefer to hire freelancers who work offsite, since it means they don't have to tie up their own workstations or other resources. Others may need freelancers to work from their premises, especially in situations where a significant amount of team interaction is required.

  • What cities are the jobs you offer in?

Creative Niche has offices in Toronto and Ottawa. That said, we offer positions in cities across Canada according to our clients' needs.

To see what cities current positions currently available are in, visit our Job Opportunities section.

  • What file formats should I use if I'm uploading documents using your online registration system?

Our system accepts both Word and PDF files. However, we strongly suggest you upload your resume as a Word document. Doing so means our system can easily pull text from it to pre-fill job opportunity fields in our database. This can help reduce the time between when you apply for a position and when our team receives notification of your candidacy.

  • What happens if I have problems during an assignment Creative Niche has secured for me?

If you encounter difficulties during an assignment, contact your Relationship Manager immediately. We'll do our best to point you in the right direction and take any necessary action.

  • What information do I need to apply through your online registration system?

If you're applying through our online registration system, you'll be prompted to enter your contact information, upload your résumé and, if applicable, upload portfolio samples.

We strongly recommend submitting your resume in Microsoft Word. Doing so makes it easier for us to recommend you for open positions. That said, résumés in Adobe PDF files are also acceptable.

  • What is a minimum workday for a Creative Niche assignment?

If you're working onsite at a client's premises, a minimum workday is four hours. If you're working offsite, two hours is considered a minimum workday.

  • What is Intern Connect?

Intern Connect was launched in 2009 in conjunction with McMaster University's Canada's Next Top Ad Exec competition.
